Unveiling the Legacy of the Big Brother Movement

Did you know that Australia boasts one of the most diverse populations globally? Since the establishment of Australia's first Department of Immigration in 1945, over 7 million individuals have made Australia their home, with one in four Australians being born overseas.

Migration has significantly influenced Australia's history and demographic composition. Notably, the Big Brother Movement (BBM) played a crucial role in this narrative, sponsoring approximately twelve thousand young men to settle in Australia until 1982.

However, the flow of former Little Brothers experienced interruptions—firstly, in 1931 due to the Great Depression, and later due to the outbreak of World War II. Despite these challenges, BBM continued its sponsorship until 1983, when changes in migration regulations led to the termination of its sponsorship scheme.

Research Consultant Engaged

To delve deeper into this rich history, BBM has enlisted the expertise of a consultant to research and reveal what percentage of the population can trace their roots back to former Little Brothers who migrated from the UK to Australia.

We eagerly await these findings and are excited to share them with you in due course.
